Planning: Location Planning

Location planning is incredibly important when planning to film a music video. The location is something that could quite easily make or break the music video if the location isn't suitable. The location may not match the intended mood of the video and therefore this won't make the video look professional or match conventions of music videos in this genre. By having the location decided prior to the point of filming it also makes things much easier as you can plan where you would like to have certain shots taken and also what features you could include.

Location 1: Theatre
This is the Theatre that will be used as one of the filming locations
One of the locations I intend to use throughout filming my music video is the theatre that is located in our school. The theatre is a useful location as it has a light control panel which would benefit the quality of the music video. By being able to control the light it means I can ensure the lighting is just how I would like it. The theatre also provides different coloured lighting which could be used to benefit the video. This will allow me to experiment with different scenes and select which one would be the most effective in the video. The theatre will be used for the scene which shows the artist performing to show a progression in his career. The theatre could also appear to be a professional environment when it isn't in full exposure which will further benefit my music video. The theatre also has many different features that would also allow me to experiment further with different scenes. The theatre has different curtains that could be used in the video and also could be tested with different light intensities. The theatre will only be used for a short period of the music video so it is not the most important location but it is still important that it is suitable for the video in order to make it look professional.

Location 2:
The second location I plan to use in my music video is Wicksteed Park. The reason I have chosen to use this location is because I feel the mood I am looking to create in my video is well suited by the environment. The area has quite a run down feel to it which would amplify the emotions of the artist. The location is also easily accessible which makes it an appropriate location to use. This location is also quite large which means there are many locations within this area which I can use for filming a large range of shots. This location will be the one which will feature the most amount of shots in the music video. This will feature all the shots of the artist walking around various places appearing to be melancholy. There aren't many limitations to using this location as it is an area where both me and the actor can access without too much planning needed. The location at the time we plan to film won't be overly busy so we wouldn't have to account for having people interfering with shots too much or leading to some continuity errors. The only potential issue with using this location is that the weather could become an issue. Due to it being an area with a lot of grass and muddy areas, the presence of rain could quite easily come in the way of our filming schedule as this would not be the conditions that would give us the best possible conditions.

Location 3:
The third location I am using for my music video is a woodland area in Warkton. This area also fits the mood of the song very well as it appears to be an area that is isolated and the are is out of the way of any houses or similar construction. This area is also symmetrical which allows me to include a feature where I can include splitscreen. This feature will include me walking down one side and the on the other side it will include me lip syncing. This location allows me to do this without appearing as though the screen has been split. The only issue with this location is that is isn't easily accessible and will require me to plan quite a way in advance in order to film here. This could prove to be an issue as it would make it more difficult for me and my actor to arrange a time where I can conduct a filming session. This area would also be affected by the weather as it is mostly grassy area and has a lot of twigs and branches around, making it difficult weather conditions for filming. However, I will still choose to use this location as the setting and the opportunities that it presents for me are perfect for me to include into my music video.
