For this music video I intend to incorporate both narrative and performance aspects, however the majority of the video will include narrative aspects. The main idea of the video will be to demonstrate the artists journey through his career. This will be demonstrated by images/clips that connote the rise and fall of the artist. I intend only to use one cast member in the video and this cast member will represent the artist himself.
Treatment
The video will begin with the character walking through an area which ideally would create a dark and eerie feel to the video to begin with. The character will be facing away from the camera to create a sense of mystery about the character. Before the character is seen walking through this area an establishing shot will be used to show to the audience the area and hopefully reinforce the feeling I am intending to include. The idea of this to represent the start of the artists career and that he is currently at a dark point and is aspiring to become a successful artist. The walking is to suggest that the artist is attempting to find his way into the music industry and is searching for the right opportunity to do so. At this stage in the artists career he is at the bottom of the music industry.
The next scene will feature a performance aspect in the music video. This will simply be the character illustrating some form of music in a room, again with a darker feel to represent the artists current position. This scene will be a short scene and will include an element of lip syncing. At this current point in the video the artist is still at the bottom of the ladder and is still aspiring to become a successful artist.
The next scene will include the artist continuing his walk, however the atmosphere in this scene will less eerie to portray his career is potentially on the rise. The idea is to include the artists journey and this will be shown through the artist walking, but will also include other scenes which include details about how the artist has completed his journey. This scene will include the camera shot from the side to reveal some of the artists face, but not all of it. The idea is to hint that the artist is becoming more who he wants to be, but isn't quite there yet, it also keeps the enigma of the artist.
The narrative will continue throughout the video and the next part will illustrate the artists music career beginning to take off, this will be shown through a suggestion that he is signing some form of record deal and has made progression in his career. Following this, the next clip will show the artist record making an appearance on an iTunes chart continuing with the further suggestion that artist is becoming more successful in his career.
The artist will now continue his journey, this time he will leave his room, whilst lip syncing, and progress onto the street. This will make links with other journey that the artist is making which will eventually match up. When the artist has appeared on the street he will continue walking, this showing his personal journey as opposed to his career journey.
The next seen will show the artist in a room with a studio feel, suggesting that he is continuing with his career and is still successful in doing so. This will be supported by the artist continuing his walk, with the atmosphere being bright and in a higher position to reinforce his success and show the artist he is at the height of his career and has achieved what he wanted.
On the artists personal journey, he comes to a standstill and realises his life has become stalled due to his passion for his music and this enforces his disliking of the music career. This will close in on the artist and show his emotions and the realisations he has had. The next scene will show the artist performing, showing the sacrifices he has made to get where he is at the time.
At this point, a symbolic glass of some kind, will begin to fall towards the ground which is representative of the artists career beginning to fall as well as his personal life beginning to fall as well. This is supposed the show how fragile the music industry is, and that despite his best attempts to keep it under control, it is impossible to keep all aspects of his life in check without affecting one aspect.
The next scene will show the artist walking down the same journey his personal life and seeing the character and eventually meeting the other character and becoming one, this is to suggest that all aspects of the characters life are coming together and declining as one.
The rest of the video, will include the character taking the same journey he took, but this time going the opposite way showing his music career declining rapidly, however it will also show his personal life taking the opposite journey and reaching the place where his music career was at previously.
